I’ve written a guest post for the team at Fabalytic Brands on the passing of Lord & Taylor.
Please take a look, part of the post are my personal recollections, including of my great grandmother, who worked at Lord & Taylor, and also about shopping for an engagement ring!
The other part of the post is a history of Lord & Taylor. Sometimes when you start researching and writing something it finds a life of its own. I learned so much over the few days I spent exploring the history of Lord & Taylor. There are stories of the theft of the Crown Jewels of the Netherlands, and about employee ownership, the first retailer to have an elevator, and the first major retailer to be led by a woman.
It’s also ironic for me to note the passing of a department store, given I worked at a competitor that put real pressure on the department store channel by offering a value proposition that at least some consumers preferred.
Please give it a read, and I hope you enjoy it.
